In the Kapilvastu region of Nepal, many children grow up in circumstances where education is not a given. This is even more difficult for girls: due to a lack of proper sanitation, they sometimes miss up to a week of school each month during their period. And without education, the vicious cycle of poverty and child marriage continues.
SSDO and the Kanchi Foundation are working together to break this cycle. With your support, we can educate young people in Nepal about the consequences of child marriage and offer them the opportunities they deserve.
What we do?
Through various projects, we are gradually building a safe, healthy, and promising learning environment:
- Construction of an ECD (Early Childhood Development) classroom
Good education starts at a young age. By creating a safe place for preschoolers, we lay a strong foundation for their future. - School supplies and uniforms
Many families cannot afford these costs. With your help, we ensure that children can attend school. - Menstrual Hygiene Facilities
Girls sometimes miss a week of school each month because there’s no toilet with running water. By investing in good sanitation, we give them the opportunity to continue their education without shame and interruption. - Raising awareness
By creating openness about child marriage, personal hygiene, and menstruation, we break taboos, increase knowledge, and build a future in which every girl can grow up safe, healthy, and confident.
Why this is so important?
Education is one of the most powerful tools against child marriage. When girls can continue to attend school, their self-confidence, knowledge, and future prospects grow. Boys simultaneously learn about equality and respect. This way, together we are building a generation that no longer sees child marriage as normal.
